The European Capital, Brussels is a city with its own typical and lively culture and mentality but under the influence of the international community it's mentality has changed and the original citizens of Brussels have almost disappeared.

In the late fifties and sixties Robert Kayaert made an extraordinary document on the typical original city of Brussels.

Robert Kayaert is definitely one of the first Belgian modern documentary photographers working in the tradition of the New York School.

He made most of his photos in Brussels at night. His documentary was ordered by the Belgian National Television (RTBF) and the subject was people at work at night.
