Josef was born Klepešta 4. 6. 1895 and died in 1976. He was an important astronomer. He became famous mainly for his work in the field selenography.

He was co-founder and managing director of the Czech Astronomical Society. Issued utility similar revolving map of the sky, along with K. Novak gave small atlas maps of the northern sky and the moon.
