Maurice Ummels, Pictorialist
There is not much information about Maurice Ummels. The only biographical information I found was in "La photographie en Wallonie", a publication of 1980. Like a lot of Belgian Pictorialists Maurice Ummels has been forgotten.
When you have a closer look at the 4 bromoils we publish, you will discover the work of a very talented and poetical photographer. It was for the first time I saw this quality of nude bromoils.
From 1914 until 1920 Maurice Ummels was a reseller of photographic materials in Liège, Belgium. He was a member of the Association Belge de Photographie (The Belgian photographic Society) from 1908 until 1920. During this time he became a professional photographer.
The oil and bromoil were his favourite photographic processes.
